Care of your Pottery

washing potsAll of my pottery is handcrafted one-of-a-kind porcelain. While porcelain is a durable material, care should be taken when cleaning and handling each piece.

My high fire functional ware is dishwasher and oven safe. However, as with all ceramics, do not subject it to rapid changes in temperature or thermal shock will occur. Avoid using abrasive powders or scouring pads. Wash decorative pieces with mild soap and water and dry with a soft cloth to preserve its beauty.

Raku, saggar, crystalline, and barrel-fired pieces are decorative and should not be used for food or beverage. Display these pieces away from direct sunlight as surface colors may fade with prolonged exposure. Occasionally wipe with a damp cloth. Avoid leaving outside for extended periods of time. Bare clay will absorb moisture and deteriorate if left to the elements. If you wish to use a Raku, saggar, or barrel fired work for flowers, place a separate container inside to hold water.

With proper care, you will have a unique handcrafted piece of pottery in your home for years to come.
